Ingredients:
- Onions – 2 large heads
- Bacon – 100 g
- Hard cheese (cheddar, gouda) – 150 g
- Egg – 1 pc.
- Breadcrumbs – 100 g
- Flour – 3-4 tbsp
- Black pepper – to taste
- Salt – to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Step-by-step recipe for making onion balls with cheese and bacon
- Peel the onion and chop it finely. Fry in a frying pan until soft to remove excess bitterness, cool. Separately fry the bacon until crisp, then chop it.
- In a bowl, combine the fried onion, bacon and grated cheese. Add a little pepper and, if desired, a pinch of salt. Stir. To make the mixture denser, add 1-2 tablespoons of flour and mix well with your hands.
- From the resulting mass, form small balls the size of a walnut. Roll each ball in flour, then dip in a beaten egg, and then in breadcrumbs. This will create a crispy golden crust. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or deep fryer. Fry the balls in batches until golden brown – about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Place the finished balls on paper towels to remove excess fat.
