Creating a cute felt toy horse is an enjoyable process that does not require special sewing skills. Such a horse will make a wonderful gift or decoration.
Materials and Tools
For this project, you will need:
- red felt 1–2 mm thick;
- matching thread;
- white knitting yarn;
- needle;
- scissors;
- stuffing (synthetic fiberfill or holofiber);
- pencil or tailors’ chalk for marking;
- pattern;
- pins;
- trim ribbon;
- optional decorations: beads, glitter, ribbons, buttons.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Download and print the horse template.
Step 2
Prepare all necessary materials.

Place the paper pattern onto the felt. Trace and cut out two identical pieces (front and back) following the outline.

Cut the white yarn into strips of 15 cm and 5 cm for the mane and tail. You can make them fluffy by cutting a fine fringe on the edge.

Place the two body pieces together. Insert the prepared mane (bundles of yarn) between the two head pieces. Secure with pins so they don’t shift. Do the same with the tail at the back. Start sewing the toy — it’s best to begin from the belly or under the neck. Join both halves of the horse with a blanket stitch along the contour, leaving a small opening for stuffing.
Step 6
Carefully fill the horse with fiberfill through the remaining opening, distributing the stuffing evenly. Pay special attention to the legs and head. Sew the opening closed.
Step 7
Cut a 40 cm piece of trim ribbon and sew it to the middle of the horse, folding it in half beforehand. If desired, you can add decorative elements: embroider a snowflake, sew sequins, make a saddle or bridle from narrow ribbons, or add spots or dapples on the hindquarters.
