Makeup has long since ceased to be simply a way to hide fatigue. Today, it can work wonders – visually lifting facial features, refreshing the eyes, and giving the skin a well-groomed, rested appearance. One of the key tools for this effect is concealer. But for it to truly “work,” it’s important to know how to apply it correctly. We at joy-pup will tell you how.
Prepare your skin
Before applying makeup, make sure your skin is moisturized. The especially delicate under-eye area requires a lightweight cream or gel to prevent concealer from emphasizing fine lines and creasing. Imagine preparing a canvas for a painting: the quality of the base determines the result.
Find the perfect shade and texture
The main rule is that the concealer should be half a shade lighter than your skin tone. A liquid texture is ideal for thin and dry skin, a creamy one for full coverage, and a light-reflecting one for a “lit-from-within” effect. A concealer that’s too light will make your face look flat, while one that’s too dark will accentuate fatigue.
Use a lifting concealer technique
Many people habitually apply concealer in a semicircle under their eyes, but makeup artists have long since abandoned this method. To create a lifted look, try a different approach:
- Place a small dot in the inner corner of your eye to refresh your look.
- Draw a thin diagonal line from the outer corner of your eye to your temple to create a lifting effect.
- Add a small amount of concealer to the corners of your lips, extending the line upward toward your cheekbone.
- Blend the product with light, upward and outward strokes. Direction is crucial: it visually lifts your features.

Set the look
To make your makeup last longer and maintain the lifting effect, lightly dust the concealer area with translucent loose powder. Use a soft brush or puff to apply the powder in a thin, almost invisible layer.
Enhance the effect with highlighting and contouring
To complete the look, add a touch of highlighter under the brow bone, on the cheekbones, and in the inner corner of the eye. This will give your face a natural glow. Light contouring under the cheekbones will enhance the facial contours and complete the lifting effect.
