The dream of light, shiny locks is familiar to many women. But if you don’t have time for a salon, then you can lighten your hair at home. We at joy-pup will tell you how to do it. Read also how to restore hair after lightening.
Prepare your hair
Before you start using the lightening composition, it is important to make sure that your hair is in good condition. Dry, brittle or severely damaged strands are best restored first with nourishing masks, oils and trimming split ends. The lightener works aggressively, and the healthier the hair is at the start, the softer the result will be.
Choosing a lightening product
You can find different options: powder lighteners, creams, bleaching dyes, sprays for gradual lightening. It is important to know about their features.
- Powder + oxide is the most effective option for significant lightening (up to 6-8 tones), but also the most aggressive.
- Cream lighteners act more gently, they can be used for 2-4 tones.
- Sprays and shampoos with a lightening effect are suitable for light, gradual lightening or creating the effect of burnt-out strands.

Application technique
Before the procedure, put on gloves, dilute the composition strictly according to the instructions and start with the occipital zone – it lightens longer. Move to the crown and temples, and protect the face and skin along the hairline with a rich cream.
If you want to get a natural result, you can use the balayage or ombre technique even at home. To do this, apply the bleach only to the ends and individual strands.
Control the time
Never leave the composition on for too long. Even if it seems that the hair is not light enough, extra minutes can result in brittleness and yellowness. After rinsing, be sure to use a balm or mask to close the hair cuticle and restore its softness.
It is worth noting that if your goal is radical lightening by several tones, it is better to divide the process into several procedures with an interval of a couple of weeks. This way the hair will have time to recover, and the result will be more uniform and natural.
