Disney has released the first teaser for the remake of “Moana” and also revealed the actors who will play the main characters.
18-year-old actress Katherine Laga’ai has been cast as the fearless Moana. She appears in the very first frames of the teaser, performing the famous song “How Far I’ll Go,” recreating the iconic boat scene from the original film.
“I am thrilled to have been cast in this role. Moana is one of my favorite characters. It’s a great honor to represent Samoa, Pacific cultures, and young girls who see themselves reflected in me,” said Laga’ai.
There were earlier rumors that Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced the character in the animated film, was considered for the role of Moana. However, she ultimately appeared only indirectly in the project – the return of her voice actor colleague, Dwayne Johnson, was confirmed. He will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action version.
The remake is scheduled for release in July 2026.
