Universal Film Company has released the first full trailer for “Disclosure Day,” the new sci-fi project from director Steven Spielberg. The screenplay was written by David Koepp, known for his work on the cult film “Jurassic Park.”
Of the three previously released trailers, this latest one is the first to offer a more or less clear idea of the upcoming film. The trailer features numerous mysterious scenes and disturbing hints related to possible contact with aliens. Meanwhile, Colin Firth’s character appears to be doing everything possible to keep the events under wraps. He uses high-tech devices linked to his consciousness and seems to fear that revealing the truth could seriously affect the global balance.
Emily Blunt’s character appears no less strange – in one scene, she reads the weather forecast, emitting unusual, almost frightening clicking sounds. Josh O’Connor’s character, who likely plays a key role in investigating the events, claims to be able to understand these mysterious signals. The trailer also features fragments of childhood memories, dynamic chase scenes, and, at the end, an object resembling a spaceship breaking through dense clouds.
Since the release of War of the Worlds in 2008, Steven Spielberg has rarely returned to science fiction. Over the past seventeen years, the only exception has been the adventure film Ready Player One. The director spent the rest of his time focusing on dramatic projects, including “Lincoln,” “Bridge of Spies,” “War Horse,” “The Post,” and “The Fabelmans.”
Nevertheless, the idea of creating a new UFO story had long haunted Spielberg. Judging by the released trailer, “Disclosure Day” could mark his return to large-scale science fiction, with an atmosphere of mystery and global consequences for all of humanity.
