Focus Features has presented the first trailer for the historical drama “Hamnet”, which is being worked on by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao. This film will be her first work in four years after “Eternals” for Marvel.
The film tells a fictional story from the life of the 16th century English playwright William Shakespeare. The story focuses on a tragic event in his family – the death of his only 11-year-old son Hamnet. Grieving, the writer creates the play “Hamlet”.
In the play, Shakespeare was played by Irish actor Paul Mescal, Agnes was played by Jessie Buckley. Joe Alwyn and Emily Watson also played roles. The film will premiere worldwide in September 2025.
