Focus Features has unveiled the official trailer for Chloé Zhao’s new film “Hamnet”, an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s acclaimed novel of the same name. The film tells a moving story about William Shakespeare’s family and the personal loss that forever changed the playwright’s life.
Set in 16th-century England, the story shows Shakespeare not as a stage legend, but as a husband and father coping with the death of his son, Hamnet. The film explores themes of love, grief, and creativity born from loss.
Director Chloé Zhao, known for Nomadland and The Rider, maintains her signature poetic style, focusing on the emotional depth of her characters. The leading roles are played by Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.
The premiere of “Hamnet” is scheduled for November 27, 2025, in select theaters, with a wide release beginning December 12, 2025.
