Artificial Intelligence Could Destroy Humanity Within 10 Years

The pace of development of artificial intelligence could push humanity to the brink of extinction within the next decade. This was stated by Professor Yoshua Bengio, who is called the “godfather of artificial intelligence.” He is also a laureate of the prestigious Turing Award.

He has openly stated his fear of the potential threat posed by this technology. His concern is based on experimental threats simulated by super-intelligent machines. He believes that such machines may have their own dangerous goals, such as survival and self-improvement.

He claims that simulations prove that, when faced with a dilemma, artificial intelligence can unhesitatingly choose to achieve the goal over saving human life. This grim prospect is becoming more realistic amid the accelerating technological race, namely the launch of new powerful models from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic, and Elon Musk’s xAI.

The professor has long warned that humanity is moving toward the creation of a competitor smarter than us. This superintelligence will be able to influence people through persuasion, threats, and advanced manipulation of public opinion. It could also be used for other purposes.

Currently, despite the concerns of many, corporate pressure in the field of artificial intelligence prevents companies from pausing development. Relying solely on corporate self-regulation is a mistake.

According to Yoshua Bengio, serious threats could emerge in as little as 5-10 years.

Recall that a former Google engineer previously suggested that artificial intelligence would destroy humanity.
