NASA showed unique images of the Donaldjohansson asteroid

NASA’s Lucy space probe made a close approach to the Donaldjohansson asteroid. It flew over the object on April 20, 2025, at a distance of about 1000 km. This made it possible to take detailed photos of the cosmic body, which has the shape of a peanut.

The asteroid is called Donaldjohansson, it was named after the archaeologist who discovered one of the ancestors of mankind. It has an unexpectedly large size: 8×3.5 km. Due to the shape, which resembles a peanut, the celestial body confirms the hypothesis that it is a contact pair – two fused objects. Scientists also recorded a slow rotation of the body around its axis.
