NASA Administrator Sean Duffy presented the agency’s ambitious plans for lunar exploration. According to him, by 2035, there should be not just a research base, but a full-fledged settlement where people can live permanently.

The main goal of the Artemis program is to create a long-term infrastructure that will be self-sufficient and capable of regularly hosting astronauts.

Energy independence. In August, the head of NASA proposed that the United States be the first to install a nuclear reactor on the Moon. The project, called the Fission Surface Power System, is designed to generate 100 kW of power. This source would provide electricity to the base during the two-week lunar nights, when solar panels are useless.

Construction using local resources. NASA plans to use lunar soil (regolith) and water from the South Pole to construct habitat modules. 3D printing technology is being considered.
