Neuralink competitor Paradromics has installed the first human brain implant. Neurosurgeons implanted the neurochip into the patient’s brain during surgery to treat epilepsy and left it in place for about 10-15 minutes.
This procedure showed that the system could be safely installed. It records neural activity. Once all necessary approvals are received, the company will begin clinical trials.
Paradromics was founded in 2015. It is developing the Connexus brain-computer interface to help people with severe motor impairments, such as paralysis, speak via a computer.

Unlike competing systems, Connexus aims to test signals at the level of individual neurons. The company compares this approach to placing microphones inside and outside a stadium. Inside, they can capture more detail, while outside the stadium, all you can hear is the roar of the crowd.
Recall that a competitor of Neuralink is starting to implant its chips in people to restore vision.
