Researchers from Sweden, using a combination of machine learning and generated images, have created an artificial intelligence model that can translate the body language of horses.

The neural network is called Dessie, it will be very useful for veterinarians who need to understand in which part of the horse’s body the pain occurs. After all, simple observation does not always give its results, especially when the animal’s problem manifests itself in dynamic conditions. Feeling pain in one limb, horses can redistribute weight to others, change their posture.

Dessie is the one that can detect signs of a problem at an early stage, because it helps people accurately read the body language of horses. The model is trained to work with images of not very high quality. To analyze movement, it does not need high-quality videos or special markers on the horse’s body. Dessie is designed for horses, but it can be used for other animals as well.
