The mother of the popular singer, rapper Eminem died at the age of 69. Debbie Nelson had been battling lung cancer for a long time. The musician did not communicate with her for a long time, but in recent years, relatives have tried to improve their relationship.
Debbie Nelson died on the evening of December 2 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She and her son Eminem had a tense relationship, which became public knowledge since the rapper gained fame. But relatives tried to restore the relationship and Debbie even congratulated the rapper on his inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
The rapper famously mentioned his mother in the track My Name Is from his 1999 album The Slim Shady LP. This eventually led to a lawsuit between him and his mother.
In September 2024, it was revealed that Debbie Nelson was terminally ill with late-stage lung cancer. Eminem had been financially supporting his mother, but had not kept in touch with her or any other members of his Missouri family for many years.
Debbie gave birth to Marshall (Eminem) when she was just 18 years old, and his father abandoned him shortly after his birth. In 2013, Eminem released the track “Headlights” as an apology to his mother.
