The daughter of the famous 57-year-old American singer R. Kelly, 26-year-old Buku Abi, said that her father raped her when she was 8 years old. At the moment, he is serving a 30-year sentence for producing child pornography, sex trafficking and racketeering. The girl was on the verge of suicide and spent several weeks in a mental hospital.
Singer Buku Abi (Joanne Kelly) in the documentary series “Karma R. Kelly: A Daughter’s Journey” said that she had been in a very difficult psychological state for a long time. That is why she ended up in a psychiatric hospital. She broke down and told her mother, Andrea Kelly, that she wasn’t okay as they were walking to school.
That same day, her mother called the hospital and sent her for treatment for two and a half weeks. She was put on very strict suicide watch. Then for two to three months after that, she was actually an outpatient, so she had to go to the hospital every day.
Andrea, who was married to singer R. Kelly from 1996 to 2009, saw cuts on the girl’s wrist. Then she asked what happened and if Buku Ebi was okay. She was very worried.
Also in the new film, the singer recalls how she woke up in the middle of the night because her father was touching her while she was pretending to be asleep.
But the musician’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, denies these accusations. She also said that the artist’s ex-wife made the same accusation many years ago, which was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children and Families and found to be unfounded.
Recall that R. Kelly has been in custody since 2019. Three years later, a Brooklyn federal court sentenced him to 30 years in prison. He may be eligible for parole in 2045.
