American actor Laurence Fishburne, known to audiences for his roles in The Matrix and Apocalypse Now, has joined the cast of a new project in the Exorcist franchise.
The film will be directed by Mike Flanagan, director of the popular series The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Midnight Mass. Universal Pictures is producing the film in association with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment.

Fishburne will join an ensemble cast led by Scarlett Johansson, known for her roles in The Avengers and Match Point. Also appearing in the film are Jacoby Jupe (Hamnet), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Last Descendant). Details about Fishburne’s character are not yet being revealed.
The new film in the Exorcist universe will feature a standalone plot and will not be connected to The Exorcist: Believer, released in 2023. Filming is planned for New York City, with a March 2027 release date.
