Apple Unveils a Robot Lamp That Dances and Talks in Siri’s Voice

Apple seems to have decided to get serious about the world of robotics. Its research division has released a home robot that resembles a lamp.

This robot somewhat resembles the lamp from the Pixar intro, and you can see how it works in a video that was published on the Apple Machine Learning Research website.

In the video, a researcher performs a task with two versions of the robot: expressive and functional. They are essentially table lamps with LED backlighting. But they also have applications such as a camera, speaker, and projector. The robots respond to gestures and voice commands, and they also speak in a voice that resembles Siri.

The expressive robot lamp can dance if you turn on music for it. It also asks about the weather, monitors a person’s work in order to add some light or give them some water. If the lamp is told that they cannot take it with them, it bows its head and seems sad.

The functional robot lamp remains motionless if it is not given tasks.

This robot lamp from Apple may go on sale in 2026-2027.
