Researchers from Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University say that when using artificial intelligence, human cognitive abilities can deteriorate. At the same time, the corporation itself is developing AI and offers the Copilot chatbot.
It is noted that artificial intelligence can become a very good assistant in completing tasks, and people will be so dependent on its help that their own abilities will atrophy. Such data are presented in a report that says that the more people rely on AI tools, the less critically they think.

Researchers surveyed 319 workers who work in the field of data or information processing. A pattern was found: the more confident the worker was in the ability of artificial intelligence to complete the task, the more often they felt that they were losing control of the situation, handing it over to the algorithm. Participants demonstrated excessive trust in the technology without proper verification.
This is especially true for low-stakes tasks, in which people are not as critical. The study also found that the less confident workers were in the ability of artificial intelligence to complete the task, the more they used critical thinking skills. Also, users who had access to generative tools and algorithms received a less diverse set of results for the same task compared to those who did not have such access. After all, they were limited to what artificial intelligence can generate.
