The Italian Institute of Technology presented the world’s first humanoid robot with a jet engine. It was called iRonCub3 and during tests it was able to take off from the ground by about 50 cm. The robot maintained its balance during the flight.

A backpack with two jet engines was attached to the humanoid’s back. Two more engines act as arms and are responsible for control during the flight. Thanks to this, it can hover in the air and remain stable even in the presence of wind or physical interference.

The new robot weighs 70 kg, it can generate more than 1000 Newtons of thrust, and the temperature of the exhaust gases can reach 800 degrees Celsius. The robot’s titanium spine improves its strength, and the body has a heat-resistant coating. Artificial intelligence-based systems allow the robot to respond to turbulent air flows and changes in limbs during flight.

The main purpose of such a robot is to quickly arrive at disaster sites, conduct aerial reconnaissance, overcome obstacles and interact with the environment during rescue operations.

Recall that the Chinese have created a brain for a humanoid robot.
