Once a week, correct the shape, regularly soften the area around the nail with a fat cream or balm. If burrs appear, treat them with alcohol and carefully cut them off. Protect your nails from the cold – be sure to wear gloves in winter. Nail polish remover should be free of acetone, which removes oil from nails, making them dull and brittle.
Bath for nails
Prepare your nails for aftercare with a relaxing hand soak. In this bath, you can add caring additives that optimally soften the cuticle. Sea salt is one of the most popular bath ingredients that will strengthen the nail plate and speed up its growth. To remove the yellowness and restore the natural color of the nails, add a few drops of lemon juice to the bath. Massage of hands and nails will be the perfect completion of care.
It is not recommended to cut the cuticle at the base of the nail with scissors, as this opens the door for various infections. If necessary, the cuticle should be gently pushed back with an orange stick or removed with a cuticle remover.
Use a nail file
Women usually use nail scissors or nail clippers to shorten their nails. However, it is better not to remove the length with these tools, as there is a risk of microtrauma and delamination of nails in the future. Instead, use a glass, diamond, or sand nail file. Metal files should not be used as they are too rough and can scratch the nail bed. Try not to file too hard – move only in one direction towards the center, keeping the tool at an angle of about 45 degrees. File only dry nails, if they are wet, they can crack and break. Corners should not be rounded as nails can grow into the side nail bed.
Oil baths
Proper nail care at home gives women not only well-groomed hands, but also self-confidence. After removing the varnish or if the nails are prone to brittleness, pamper them with an oil bath. Heat vegetable oil (olive, castor, coconut, almond) in a water bath to about 40 degrees and dip your nails into it for 3-5 minutes. Avocado, jojoba, rose and orange oils are also suitable for an oil bath. This procedure is recommended to be done at bedtime, as the active ingredients can be optimally absorbed into the skin during the night.
Nutrition in nail care
In addition to external nail care products, your diet also includes nail care. An unbalanced diet and the resulting lack of vitamins and minerals can also lead to brittle nails. Drink plenty of water, eat foods rich in calcium and silicon (milk and whole grains), and plenty of vegetables to nourish your nails from the inside out.
