Dutch pancakes are a delicate and fluffy dessert that is ideal for breakfast. They are something between a pancake and a soufflé, traditionally baked in the oven. We at joy-pup tell you how to cook Dutch pancakes and offer a simple recipe.
Ingredients
- Flour – 100 g (about 3/4 cup)
- Eggs – 3 large
- Milk – 120 ml (1/2 cup)
- Sugar – 1-2 tbsp (to taste)
- Vanilla extract – 1 tsp (optional)
- A pinch of salt
- Butter – 2 tbsp. spoons (for greasing the pan)
For serving:
- Icing sugar
- Fresh fruit or berries
- Honey, syrup or jam
Step-by-step preparation
- Preheat the oven to 220°C. This is important so that the pancake rises well. Leave the pan or heavy frying pan with a diameter of 20-25 cm in the oven – it should heat up.
- In a bowl, beat the eggs until a light foam forms. Add milk, sugar, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, mix thoroughly. Gradually pour in the sifted flour, continuing to beat until the dough becomes smooth and without lumps.
- When the oven is hot, take out the hot frying pan. Spread the butter on the bottom and walls to prevent sticking.
- Quickly pour the batter into the hot frying pan. Put it back in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. The pancake should rise well at the edges and become airy. Do not open the oven during baking, otherwise the dough may fall.
- Take the Dutch pancake out of the oven. It may fall a little – this is normal. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, decorate with fruits, berries or drizzle with honey.
