Ingredients:

  • 2-3 large onions (preferably sweet varieties)
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 200 g sour cream (20-25%)
  • 100 g cream cheese (for example, “Philadelphia”)
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp sugar (optional, to enhance caramelization)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Step-by-step recipe

  • Peel and thinly slice the onion into half rings. Melt the butter with olive oil in a frying pan, add the onion. Fry it over medium heat for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes soft, golden brown and fragrant. At the end, add sugar and a little salt to enhance the flavor.
  • In a bowl, combine cream cheese and sour cream, beat until smooth. Add garlic powder, soy sauce, pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.
  • Chop the cooled caramelized onion finely with a knife or lightly beat it with a blender (if you want a smoother texture). Add it to the sauce and mix well again.
  • Let the dip sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour – during this time the flavors will combine and the taste will become more intense.
