Recipe for Easter Gingerbread Cookies
Ingredients for the Dough:
- Flour – 400 g
- Honey – 220 g
- Butter – 120 g
- Egg – 1 pc.
- Baking soda – 1 tsp.
- Spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves) – 1 tsp. each
- A pinch of salt
For the Icing:
- Powdered sugar – 200 g
- Egg white – 1
- Lemon juice – 1-2 tsp.
- Food coloring (optional)
Preparation:
Preparing the Dough
Melt the honey and butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Once fully dissolved, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Adding Spices and Egg
Add the spices, salt, and baking soda to the warm mixture. Mix thoroughly. Then, add the egg and stir well.
Kneading the Dough
Gradually add sifted flour, kneading a soft, elastic dough. It should not stick to your hands. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1–2 hours.
Forming the Cookies
Roll out the dough to about 5 mm thick and cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Traditional Easter shapes include eggs, bunnies, and Easter cakes.
Decorating Easter Gingerbread Cookies
Traditionally, cookies are decorated with sugar icing tinted in soft pastel colors, used to draw patterns, Easter symbols, or inscriptions such as “Christ is Risen.” Alternatively, you can use melted chocolate, sprinkles, nuts, or powdered sugar applied through stencils.
