How to make a felt dragon: step-by-step instructions
Materials:
- Sheets of felt in white, green, red, yellow, blue colors.
- Foamiran is red.
- Threads of matching colors.
- Filler (holofiber or cotton wool).
- Scissors.
- Glue gun.
- Dark beads for eyes.
Step 1: Draw a dragon template on paper or cardboard. It may include the body, face, wings, paws, horns, belly, head and tail. Cut out the templates.
Step 2: Lay out sheets of felt and, using templates, cut out the desired pieces from different colors. You will need two pieces for each body part except the head and belly.
Step 3: Sew the belly and head to the front of the body using a loop stitch, embroider eyelashes near the eyes, insert the pupils into the eye holes and sew to the main part.
Step 4: Cut out 2 pieces of dragon wings from foamiran and glue them together with a glue gun.
Step 5: Lay the two pieces of each body piece wrong side down and begin stitching along the edges, leaving an opening for the filling. This hole should be large enough for easy filling.
Step 6: Fill each body part with holofiber or cotton wool through the hole. Make sure the filler is evenly distributed.
Step 7: Sew up the hole after you have filled the dragon’s body completely.
Step 8: Take 2 muzzles and sew them together, leave a small hole, fill the piece with holofiber and sew it up to the end. Embroider a smile in the center of the face with thread.
Step 9: Sew together and stuff the dragon’s legs and tail inside with stuffing. Cut out horns from foamiran.
Step 10: Attach the face, wings, tail, horns, legs to the main body of the dragon using a glue gun.
Step 11: Glue dark beads to the pupils.
Step 12: If necessary, add embellishments and details such as embroidery, sequins or buttons to add extra character to your New Year’s dragon.
