Protein is one of the most important building blocks of our body. Without it, muscles, skin, hair, internal organs, and the immune system cannot function properly. Its deficiency can manifest itself quite unnoticed, but over time it can lead to serious health consequences. At joy-pup, we tell you how to understand that your body is not getting enough protein.
Loss of Muscle Mass and Weakness
Protein is necessary for maintaining and restoring muscle tissue. If there is not enough protein in the diet, the body begins to break down its own muscles to obtain the necessary amino acids. This leads to:
- general weakness;
- decreased endurance;
- rapid fatigue even with light exercise;
- decreased muscle mass.
Hair loss and brittle nails
Keratin is a protein that hair and nails are made of. With a protein deficiency, the body “redistributes resources” and primarily supports vital organs, and hair and nails receive fewer nutrients. This manifests itself in the form of:
- hair loss;
- hair thinning and fragility;
- slow hair growth;
- flaking and brittle nails.

Weakened immunity
Immune cells, antibodies and other protective elements of the immune system consist of protein. Its deficiency leads to the fact that the body becomes more vulnerable to viruses and infections. Signs:
- frequent colds and viral diseases;
- slow wound healing;
- increased sensitivity to inflammation.
Swelling
Protein is involved in maintaining a normal fluid balance in the body. One of the blood proteins – albumin – retains fluid in the vessels. With its deficiency, fluid enters the tissues, and swelling appears, most often in the face, arms and legs. If you notice that you have begun to “swell” for no apparent reason – pay attention to your diet.
