NASA showed the birth of a new iceberg

NASA satellites showed incredible footage that shows how a large block called A-84 is pushing off the George VI Ice Shelf along the coast of Antarctica. This newborn iceberg has an area of ​​approximately 595 square meters. This is reported by DailyMail.

According to experts, the broken off pile of ice can flip or capsize when it begins to melt and break apart in the open ocean. The birth of a new iceberg is shown in a video from NASA’s Earth Observatory, and it consists of 21 images received from satellites between January 15 and February 15, 2025.

The new iceberg, A-84, breaks off the southern end of the George VI Ice Shelf, falls along the Antarctic Peninsula, and heads toward South America. It then floats down Ronne Inlet past Smiley Island, then heads northwest toward the Southern Ocean.

NASA says the iceberg has been drifting about 250 km from its origin for a month.
