The birth of a new iceberg is shown in a video from NASA’s Earth Observatory, and it consists of 21 images received from satellites between January 15 and February 15, 2025.

The new iceberg, A-84, breaks off the southern end of the George VI Ice Shelf, falls along the Antarctic Peninsula, and heads toward South America. It then floats down Ronne Inlet past Smiley Island, then heads northwest toward the Southern Ocean.

NASA says the iceberg has been drifting about 250 km from its origin for a month.
