To support the Hollywood writers’ strike, Drew Barrymore refused to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which began a few days ago. According to Variety, the actress said in an official statement that until an agreement is reached with the Writers Guild, she will not participate in the awards.
But Barrymore noted that next year it is quite possible to return to the role of the host of the ceremony due to good relations with MTV.
Recall that the strike of the Screenwriters Guild began on May 2. Its reason is a broken deal with Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC Universal, Paramount and Sony. Negotiations on it lasted six weeks. The Writers Guild noted that streamers and studios have not agreed to guaranteed weekly employment levels. They also rejected proposals to minimize unpaid work and regulate the use of neural networks in their work. The strike began over low wages, copyright struggles and poor working conditions.
This strike could become one of the most massive over the past 15 years in Hollywood. The fate of many projects, especially TV shows, depends on it.
