In honor of the popular singer Taylor Swift, they decided to rename a city in Germany. According to People, on July 2, the mayor of Gelsenkirchen, Karin Welge, approved its temporary renaming to Swiftkirchen. This is due to the star’s three Eras Tour shows, which will take place on July 17, 18 and 19.
The idea of a temporary rename was proposed by fan Aleshani Westhoff, who prepared a corresponding petition.
The head of the public relations department, Markus Schwardtmann, also spoke about the upcoming renaming of the city. The city will also be installing many more signs in crowded areas in the coming days.
Along with the city’s name change, there will be other changes inspired by Taylor Swift. In particular, the Taylor Swift tram will travel, and a stone will be added to the city Walk of Fame. There will also be Taylor Swift’s big outdoor party.
