NASA Blue Ghost landed on the Moon and showed the first photos of the surface

For the second time in history, a private mission delivered cargo to the Moon. NASA Blue Ghost made an almost perfect landing, and the last maneuvers before that lasted about an hour.

On March 2, the device turned on a special mode for launching into orbit and smoothly descended almost 100 km to the Moon. A few kilometers before the surface, it activated the engines to slow the fall and smoothly take the right position.

The probe managed to avoid large rocks and chose the best place for landing in the area of ​​the huge depression “Sea of ​​Crises”, making a historic landing on the lunar soil. Three days before this, NASA Blue Ghost passed low over the Moon, and the sunrise of the Earth was captured on camera.

Thanks to the soft and successful landing, it was possible to deliver 10 NASA scientific instruments. Now scientists will be able to study the radiation levels on the Moon and test new methods of collecting samples.

NASA Blue Ghost will work on the Moon for about two weeks. One lunar day lasts almost 30 Earth days. That is, when the Sun rises there, it does not set for 14 days.
