Why does lipstick roll?

Lipstick is one of the main elements of makeup, but sometimes it does not behave as you would like. You may notice how it rolls, gathers in the folds of the lips, leaves unsightly lumps. We at joy-pup will consider why this happens and how to avoid such problems.

Insufficient lip hydration

If the lips are dry or chapped, the lipstick does not apply evenly, accumulates in the folds and cracks. This is especially true for matte and long-lasting textures that require a smooth base.

Solution: before applying lipstick, regularly use lip balm or moisturizing primer. It is also useful to do a gentle lip exfoliation before makeup.

Too thick a layer of lipstick

The more layers, the higher the risk that the lipstick will start to roll and clump. This is especially true for thick, creamy textures.

Solution: Apply the lipstick in one thin layer, spreading it with a brush or fingertip for a more natural effect.

Poor quality or incompatible base

Some lip balms and primers can be too oily or silicone, which is why the lipstick loses its durability and rolls.

Solution: Choose a base for lipstick that is quickly absorbed. You can lightly powder your lips before applying the product.

Mixing incompatible textures

If your lips already have a layer of oily balm or oil, and you apply long-lasting lipstick on top, it may roll.

Solution: Before applying lipstick, blot your lips with a napkin to remove excess oil.

Incorrect application technique

If you apply lipstick without prior preparation, without a pencil or with incorrect movements, it may not lay down evenly.

Solution: use a contour pencil before applying, and pat the lipstick itself with your finger or brush for better adhesion to the skin.
