Ingredients
For the test:
- 250 g flour
- 1 egg
- 100 ml water
- 2 tbsp. spoons of vegetable oil
- A pinch of salt
For filling:
- 400 g chicken fillet
- 1 large onion
- 1 carrot
- 2 cloves garlic
- 100 g cheese (mozzarella or other soft cheese is best)
- 2 tbsp. spoons of vegetable oil
- Salt, pepper to taste
- Favorite spices (eg paprika, thyme, oregano)
For lubrication:
- 1 egg
Step-by-step preparation of chicken strudel
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg and vegetable oil. Gradually add water while kneading the dough. It should be elastic and not stick to your hands.
- Cover the dough with a towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Cut the chicken breast into small pieces. Peel the onions and carrots and cut into small cubes. Finely chop the garlic.
- Heat a frying pan with vegetable oil and fry the onion until transparent. Add carrots and fry for another 5-7 minutes. Add chicken and garlic, season with salt, pepper and your favorite spices. Fry until the chicken is done, stirring occasionally. Leave the filling to cool. Add the grated cheese to the cooled filling and stir.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until very thin. Place the filling on one edge of the dough, stepping back slightly from the edge.
- Carefully roll the dough with the filling into a roll, tucking the edges so that it does not spill out. Transfer the strudel to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the strudel with beaten egg for a beautiful golden crust. Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the strudel cool slightly, then cut it into portions. Serve the strudel warm, garnished with herbs or sauce to taste.
