How to grow microgreens in the shell
The idea and execution are very simple. Instead of microgreens, you can take the seeds of any crop – cereals, legumes, vegetables. The most popular are: peas, sunflower, watercress, radish, dill, beets, spinach, alfalfa and others. For lovers of savory tastes, onions, mustard, cilantro, garlic are suitable. Before sowing, you need to soak the seeds for 6-8 hours in purified water.
You will need:
- eggs;
- cotton wool;
- water;
- microgreen seeds;
- a knife or sharp object for cutting through the top of the shell;
- spoon or syringe for filling the shell with water;
- egg stands.
Step 1. Cut off the top of the egg shell. You can use a knife or a sharp object to cut through the top. Remove about a third or half of the height of the egg.
Step 2 Carefully remove the egg yolk and white. Remove the film from the inside of the egg. You can rinse the inside of the shell under running water to get rid of the odor and contents.
Step 3. Line the bottom with cotton wool and moisten with water using a spoon or syringe. The wetted cotton will reduce the surface area, then you can add some more. Make sure the shell is at least half full.
Step 4. Sprinkle the soaked early microgreen seeds on the surface and press them a little into the cotton wool.
Step 5: Water the microgreens with a little water to moisten the seeds, but don’t soak them. Place the shells on an egg rack or other suitable container in a bright spot, avoiding direct sunlight.
In a warm and bright place, the seeds need 7-10 days to germinate. The cotton must be kept moist during the entire growing process. Eggs can be decorated in any way, here, of course, it all depends on your imagination.
