Step-by-step preparation

  • If you are using fresh spinach, wash and dry it. Remove tough stems if necessary. Defrost frozen spinach and squeeze out excess moisture well.
  • In a preheated frying pan with a little oil, fry the spinach until soft (2–3 minutes). Add finely chopped garlic, a little salt and pepper.
  • In a deep bowl, mix eggs, cottage cheese and cream until smooth. Add grated cheese (leave some for sprinkling), flour or semolina, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  • Combine the fried spinach with the egg-cottage cheese mixture and mix thoroughly.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a baking dish with butter and lightly sprinkle with flour or semolina to prevent the casserole from sticking.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top. Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the casserole is golden brown.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly so that it holds its shape better. Cut into portions and serve warm.
